KARACHI, October 17: The Sindh government has announced a massive Rs55.9 billion allocation under the Benazir Hari Card Programme to promote wheat cultivation and support small-scale farmers across the province.
Sindh Senior Minister and Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon said that in the first phase, around 400,000 farmers will benefit from the initiative, covering 2.26 million acres of land.
According to the minister, 50,000 Benazir Hari Cards will be issued through Sindh Bank by the end of this month, while registration for farmers has already begun. Existing cardholders have been asked to update their registration, whereas new applicants can register by presenting their CNIC or land ownership record.
Sharjeel Inam Memon emphasized that biometric verification and digital land record checks will ensure complete transparency in the disbursement of financial support. Under the Wheat Growers Programme, priority will be given to farmers owning one to 25 acres of land. Each farmer will receive one bag of DAP and two bags of urea fertilizer to boost wheat production.
“The Sindh government is fully committed to empowering farmers, increasing wheat cultivation, and achieving self-sufficiency in food production,”
— said Sharjeel Inam Memon.
He added that the initiative is not just about financial aid but aims to make farmers self-reliant with dignity. In the next phase, the Sindh government plans to extend the Benazir Hari Card Programme to millions of additional farmers across the province.
The minister said the government’s focused efforts would help revitalize Sindh’s agriculture sector, enhance productivity, and ensure economic stability for rural communities.
